Language levels and placement

Course system

German Language Levels

The course system of Deutschothek Language School is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and is divided into 6 language levels, or 11-course levels respectively. Here you find a detailed description of the German language levels .

The language levels A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1 each comprise 2-course levels. In these courses, you work with a course book and the teachers’ own material.

After the C1.2 course, you have the possibility to attend the C2 Perfection course. In this course the teachers use their own material. As the topics vary from course to course, it is also possible to attend several C2 courses in a row.

Depending on the type of course, one course level can be completed within 4 weeks ( intensive course ) or 10 weeks ( evening course , semi-intensive course ).

Professional placement

Choosing the optimal course for you is important to us. We take the time to carry out a detailed placement test with our students for all German language levels.

The placement is done both in writing and speaking. You have two options for how to complete the placement processes:

  • online (written test) and over the phone/via Skype (speaking test)
  • or directly at Deutschothek Language School (both tests at the same time)

Course consultation and the placement test are, of course, free of charge. We will be happy to assist you in preparing an optimal learning plan for you to reach your goals in the best possible way.

If you are a beginner and you do not have any experience in learning German, you can skip the placement test and proceed directly to registering yourself for the beginners class (level A1.1).
