General Terms and Conditions (GTC) of Deutschothek Sprachschule e.U. (Deutschothek), based in Vienna, as of March 2026
By booking a language course or a language or integration examination, you enter into a contract with Deutschothek and agree to the GTC.
1. Registration for a language course / an examination
a) Registrations are divided into initial registration (no registration has been made in the past) and subsequent registration (initial registration has already been completed).
b) You can complete an initial registration in person or online via a form provided on the Deutschothek website.
c) For an initial registration, the following data must be provided correctly: first and last name, address, date of birth, title/gender, and email address.
d) You can also complete a registration for another person. The person who carried out the registration is always liable for the course fees.
e) If you have already completed an initial registration in the past, registrations for further language courses are possible in person, online via a form provided on the Deutschothek website, by email, or by telephone.
f) Any change of data must be reported immediately in writing (also by email) or in person.
g) If you already have prior knowledge and Deutschothek does not know your current language level, a free placement test will be carried out at the time of registration.
h) Your registration becomes binding only once Deutschothek has sent you a reservation confirmation by email or issued it in person and the required payments have been made in full within the reservation period, or if Deutschothek has received confirmation that the course costs will be covered by a funding body (“confirmation of cost coverage”). You will then receive a confirmation of your registration from Deutschothek within 3 working days.
i) Personal registration is not possible on those days or at those times on which Deutschothek is closed due to official or legal regulations or other comparable cases, e.g. due to developments in the course of an epidemic/pandemic. In this case, registration is only possible via the other communication channels mentioned.
j) If you only wish to take an examination, a placement is not required.
2. Payment of the course fee/examination fee
a) The course fee/examination fee must be paid in full before the start of the course/before the examination. Deviating agreements can only be made with Deutschothek in writing.
b) The course fee/examination fee can be paid either in cash or by bank transfer.
- In the case of cash payment: A cash payment of the course fee/examination fee is possible during office opening hours at the Deutschothek office. In the case of cash payment, the payment confirmation is issued immediately.
- In the case of bank transfer: Payment by bank transfer is only possible if a course place/examination place has been reserved beforehand. If you receive a reservation confirmation, the reservation date is indicated in it. The course fee/examination fee must be received in full in the account of Deutschothek no later than this date. Subsequently, a payment confirmation will be sent to the email address you have provided. If the course fee/examination fee is not received in full or only after the expiry of the reservation period or if no reservation has been made, no course place/examination place can be guaranteed.
c) Proof of payment of the course fee/examination fee must be presented to the employees of Deutschothek upon request.
d) Cash payment is not possible on those days or at those times on which Deutschothek is closed due to official or legal regulations or other comparable cases, e.g. due to an epidemic/pandemic. In this case, payment is only possible by bank transfer.
e) If a funding body covers the course fees/examination fee, the confirmation of cost coverage by the funding body must be received by Deutschothek before the start of the course/before the examination. If the funding does not fully cover the course fee/examination fee, the personal contribution must be paid accordingly in line with the payment of the course fee/examination fee (see point 2a–2d).
f) If the course fee/examination fee or the personal contribution is not paid even after a written reminder, Deutschothek reserves the right to initiate debt collection proceedings. In this case, the costs of the debt collection service provider will also be charged to the participant.
3. Cancellation (withdrawal) and rebooking – group courses and examinations
a) Cancellation of the course or an examination is only possible up to 14 days (2 weeks) before the scheduled course start/examination date and must be made in person at the Deutschothek office or in writing. In the case of cancellation, a processing fee of €40 will be charged. In the case of cancellations from 14 days before the scheduled course start/examination date, the full course fee becomes due – even if the course is not attended. The examination fee is also due in the event of non-attendance. This also applies to the pro rata personal contribution in the case of the course costs/examination costs being covered by a funding body.
b) Rebooking of the course/the examination date is only possible up to 14 days (2 weeks) before the scheduled course start/examination date and must be made in person at the Deutschothek office or in writing. Rebookings after this point are no longer possible. The first rebooking is free of charge. From the 2nd rebooking onwards, a processing fee of €40 will be charged.
c) For bookings made via distance selling (in particular via internet or email), course participants as consumers are entitled to a statutory right of withdrawal within 14 days from the day of conclusion of the contract. In order to comply with the withdrawal period, it is sufficient to send the declaration of withdrawal in due time. If the participant expressly requests that Deutschothek begins performance of the contract before the expiry of the withdrawal period, the participant loses the right of withdrawal upon commencement of participation in the course or upon taking the examination.
d) In the event of irregular participation in the language course, a refund of the course fee, an extension or postponement of the course is not possible.
e) If a confirmation of cost coverage already issued by a funding body is tied to regular participation agreed in advance and the funding body withdraws (partially) from the funding due to irregular participation in the language course, the outstanding amount must be paid by the participant. If the participant does not pay the amount even after a written reminder, Deutschothek reserves the right to initiate debt collection proceedings.
f) Personal processing is not possible on those days or at those times on which Deutschothek is closed due to official or legal regulations or other comparable cases, e.g. due to developments in the course of an epidemic/pandemic. In this case, processing is only possible via the other communication channels mentioned.
4. Cancellation (withdrawal) and rebooking – individual lessons and company courses
Agreed individual lessons and company courses must be rescheduled or cancelled by no later than 18:00 on the previous working day, otherwise the teaching units agreed for the respective day, including any travel cost allowance (if applicable), will be charged in full.
5. Follow-up course
If you are already attending a language course and wish to attend a follow-up course, a subsequent registration is required. There is no automatic reservation of a place.
6. Course conditions
a) One teaching unit (UE) is 45 minutes. The UE stated in the course programs and other information media are rounded to one decimal place using standard rounding rules.
b) On public holidays in Austria, Deutschothek is closed and no classes take place. In courses in which teaching units would be lost due to public holidays, the course period is extended accordingly. The course periods and the total number of teaching units are specified in the course program.
c) Deutschothek reserves the right to cancel courses in which the specified minimum number of participants is not reached. In the event of cancellation of a course, the course fee will be refunded in full by Deutschothek. Instead of cancelling the course, Deutschothek may postpone, shorten or offer the course in a smaller group at a higher course fee. The participant has the right to accept the course under the changed conditions or to withdraw from the course free of charge.
d) Unless otherwise stated, costs for visits, excursions, examinations, course materials, etc. are not included in the course fee.
e) If there is sufficient demand, Deutschothek reserves the right to offer additional course dates.
6a. Regulations for in-person teaching
a) As far as possible, the course booked as in-person teaching takes place in in-person form.
b) On days or at times on which the premises of Deutschothek are closed due to official or legal regulations or other comparable cases, e.g. due to developments in the course of an epidemic/pandemic, and in-person teaching is not possible, online teaching shall apply as an equivalent form of teaching.
c) Online teaching shall likewise apply as an equivalent form of teaching on days or at times on which quarantine has been imposed for the course group as a whole or for the course instructor of the course attended by the participant.
d) On those days or times on which Deutschothek does not provide or cannot provide the service in in-person form, the participant shall make use of the offer of Deutschothek for online teaching, which is accepted by the participant as a full substitute for in-person teaching and without any further compensation.
e) In the event of online teaching, the regulations pursuant to 6b apply.
6b. Regulations for online teaching
a) Online teaching is conducted via the platform of an external service provider (Zoom Video Communications, Inc., USA – “Zoom”). In the course of using Zoom, personal data may be processed and data may be transferred to third countries (in particular to the USA). Zoom is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The processing of personal data is carried out on the basis of our privacy policy as well as – where necessary – your consent. Further information on data processing by Zoom can be found at https://zoom.com/de/trust/privacy/privacy-statement/. By participating in online teaching, you agree to the use of Zoom in the context of contract performance.
b) The participant has an appropriate end device (computer, laptop or tablet) and internet connection in order to participate in online teaching. Deutschothek does not provide an end device or internet connection. With regard to costs, we point out that the participant may incur costs for internet use in the context of online teaching, which are to be borne by him/her and will under no circumstances be covered by Deutschothek.
c) The participant is expressly prohibited from making recordings (audio and/or video) of the online teaching.
d) Participation in online teaching takes place via the Zoom platform using an access link provided by Deutschothek. For participation, no registration with Zoom and no payment or provision of payment data is generally required. For proper participation, a stable internet connection as well as a suitable end device is required. The quality of the connection depends on the individual technical equipment and internet connection of the participants. The internet speed can be checked if necessary via an online speed test (e.g. at https://www.speedtest.net).
e) If the participant has problems with the internet connection or the end devices, as a result of which he/she cannot participate in the lesson or cannot participate adequately, Deutschothek will not offer any replacement for this teaching time and will not provide any other compensation.
f) If funding bodies require screenshots as proof of participation in the course, the participant agrees that screenshots (photos) of the Zoom screen (participants) may be taken and transmitted to the respective funding bodies/funding institutions.
7. Liability
a) Deutschothek has prepared all information provided in publications and on internet pages to the best of its knowledge and belief. However, no liability is assumed for the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of the information provided, insofar as Deutschothek cannot be accused of intent or gross negligence.
b) Furthermore, Deutschothek assumes no liability for damage to or loss of personal belongings of course participants, unless Deutschothek can be held liable for intent or gross negligence. In all other respects, any liability of Deutschothek exceeding the mandatory provisions of statutory damages law is excluded. Course participants do not have accident or health insurance coverage through Deutschothek. Deutschothek recommends, if necessary, taking out health and accident insurance. For minors, their legal guardians are liable. Participation in excursions is at one’s own risk.
8. Damages
a) Inventory, premises, media and equipment of Deutschothek must be used and handled with care.
b) Participants are liable for all damages caused by them and must provide compensation for such damages.
9. Exclusion by Deutschothek
If a participant behaves in a grossly non-contractual manner, disregards the house rules, disrupts the conduct of a course or endangers themselves and/or other persons, Deutschothek may issue a written warning to this person. If the participant continues to disregard the points stated in the warning, he or she may be excluded from the course program without compensation. Course fees will not be refunded in this case. In the case of examinations, the grounds for exclusion according to the ÖIF examination regulations in their respective valid version also apply.
10. Minors
The minimum age to participate in courses and examinations of Deutschothek is 16 years. In exceptional cases, participants from the age of 15 are accepted.
11. Data protection
Your personal data is recorded, stored and processed electronically by us. It is used exclusively for internal purposes of Deutschothek, except where a transfer to third parties (e.g. for accounting) is necessary in connection with the provision of our services. With regard to data protection, our privacy policy (Datenschutzerklärung) applies.
12. Copyright
When making photocopies, the responsibility under copyright law for the photocopying lies with the users of the photocopying devices. The users undertake, in the event of copyright claims against Deutschothek, to indemnify and hold Deutschothek harmless.
13. Audio, video and photo recordings
Deutschothek points out that audio, video and photo recordings may be made on its premises and during joint excursions and activities, which are intended for publication (including in advertising materials, on the websites as well as on Deutschothek’s social media presence [Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram]). The course participants agree that the recordings made of them during or in connection with attending the offers of Deutschothek may be used without compensation, without any temporal or spatial limitation, by any current or future technical means. Your registration is deemed to constitute consent. If you do not agree with this, you must inform the employees of Deutschothek during personal initial registration on the registration form before the start of the course or, in the case of an initial registration on the internet, under “What else I would like to say”.

15. Miscellaneous
a) Amendments and additions to these conditions must be made in writing.
b) Deutschothek reserves the right to change the rules, the program, the prices and the General Terms and Conditions without prior notice. This has no effect on already concluded, existing contracts. In the case of a new contract conclusion (for example subsequent registration for another course), the new conditions valid at the time of the conclusion of the contract shall apply.
c) Should any provision of these terms and conditions be or become legally invalid, the remaining provisions shall remain fully valid.
d) The privacy policy (Datenschutzerklärung), the mission statement (Leitbild) and the house rules (Hausordnung) of Deutschothek are integral parts of the GTC in their respective valid version, which you accept and to which you expressly agree. These can be accessed on the company website.
e) Errors and misprints excepted.
f) For any disputes arising from and in connection with these GTC, the exclusive place of jurisdiction – unless § 14 KSchG provides otherwise – is the court with subject-matter jurisdiction for Vienna Rudolfsheim Fünfhaus.
